Nana's Cinnamon Rolls

This was Nana's recipe for cinnamon rolls. The called them 'North Dakota Cinnamon Rolls'. Thank you to Jim and Brenda for submitting this recipe.

Step 1
Mix active yeast with warm water. Stir and let stand for 5 minutes.

Step 2
Combine milk, butter, sugar and salt. Add softened yeast and egg. Gradually stir in flour to form soft dough. Beat vigorously. Cover with greased wax paper and towel. Let rise in a warm place until they have doubled in size (about 2 hours).

Step 3
Turn onto a flour-dusted surface, roll out 1/2 inch think into 8 x 16 inch pan, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll as cinnamon roll, and cut into one inch slices.

Step 4
For caramel topping, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter. Heat slowly in a greased 13 x 9 pan, then set aside to cool.

Step 5
Place the one inch sliced cinnamon rolls cut side down over caramel mixture. Cover and let rise until double in size. Bake for 25 minutes at 375 degrees.

Step 6
Remove pan from oven, turn bottom side up onto serving platter or dish.
